New Releases: August 26, 2008
DragonForce - Ultra Beatdown CD/CD+DVD (Roadrunner)
Hot off the mainstream success brought on by Guitar Hero III, DragonForce release a fresh album of wunder-metal brimming with soaring, epic vocals and lightning fast guitar solos. The deluxe double-disc edition adds three bonus tracks as well as a “making of the album” feature and a special behind the scenes look at the making of Herman Li’s guitar.
Motörhead - Motorizer CD/2xLP (Steamhammer)
Motörhead’s 24th album — produced by Cameron Webb and recorded at Sage & Sound Recording and Dave Grohl’s 606 studios in Los Angeles. If you dig Motorhead, there’s no need to convince you this album is worth picking up. That’s the beauty of Lemmy and Co… you always know what you’re gonna get, and it always kicks ass!
Slipknot - All Hope Is Gone CD/CD+DVD (RRR/WEA)
Kicked off by the powerful crescendo of “Execute” and “Gematria (The Killing Name)” and ending with the blistering title track “All Hope Is Gone” — Slipknot’s latest is a cohesive statement about the world today. Special CD+DVD edition includes bonus tracks and a “making of the album” documentary.
Matthew Sweet - Sunshine Lies CD/2xLP+CD (Shout Factory)
Nine years after his last major solo release, Sunshine Lies recalls Sweet’s revered 1992 masterpiece Girlfriend. Features long-time sidemen Richard Lloyd (Television), Ivan Julian (Richard Hell & The Voidoids), Greg Leisz (Beck, Bill Frisell), Ric Menck (Velvet Crush), and guest vocals by Susanna Hoffs (The Bangles). The expanded double-vinyl edition features four bonus songs and includes a copy of the album on CD.
Venom - Hell CD (Sanctuary)
Cronos and his band of drunken misfits have created a raw, bitter, and aggressive album of no-frills metal. Limited edition digipak version includes live versions of “Burn In Hell” and “In League With Satan” from their 2007 Scandinavian tour.
Rocket From The Crypt - All Systems Go 3 CD (Vagrant/Fontana)
Rocket From The Crypt return with the third CD in their All Systems Go series. Contains lost eight-track demo recordings — many available here for the first time. The only negative thing about this release is it makes us wish they were still around…
Lil’ Ed And The Blues Imperials - Full Tilt CD (Alligator)
A modern blues firestorm steeped in tradition. From foot-stomping boogies to emotionally charged slow blues to rocked out celebrations, Full Tilt is a party-inducing delight. The addition of horn players Eddie McKinley and David Basinger and pianist/organist Johnny Iguana on a few songs add even more punch and power to the proceedings.
Fantomas/Melvins Big Band - Live From London 2006 DVD (Ipecac Recordings)
Recorded on May 1, 2006 at Kentish Town Forum, Live From London 2006 features the amassed crew of Mike Patton, Buzz Osborne, Dave Lombardo, Trevor Dunn, Dale Crover and Sir David Scott Stone. Filmed by Douglas Pledger, Matthew Rozeik and Alex Gunnis, the music is culled from the sole Fantomas/Melvins Big Band release as well as music from both the Melvins and Fantomas back cataloges. Bonus feature is an audio commentary with Danny DeVito, Ipecac co-owner Greg Werckman, booking agent Robby Fraser, Melvins’ Dale Crover and Buzz Osborne.
